When you finally
opened your heart
wide enough
and asked me what I saw
I looked up and down
and all around
and long enough to see
not even its deepest shadows
had made a place for me

How could I not
cover mine (in shame)
all swollen and distended
from being full of you
and all that I intended
but never found ground
sound enough to bring forth
